The Sinharaja Rain Forest is about 11187 hectares of tropical
rain forest located just below the tip of India. The rain forest spans over the
southwest region of Sri Lanka. It is considered “the country’s last viable area
of primary tropical rainforest” (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/405/).
There are twenty-two villages that encompass the forest. Of these villages, two
of them are located within the bounds of the rain forest. The location of the
Sinharaja in Sri Lanka plays an important role in its uses, people, and
species.
